The milk revolution is happening and animal-free company ‘Perfect Day Foods’ is heading the spear (un-violently). This product is, naturally, totally vegan. But fear not dairy lovers — it tastes exactly like the real thing. In a bid to join the ongoing fight against the worldwide farming industry, two cheese have lovers developed the product using a fermentation technique, similar to that used when brewing beer.
You’re likely to have at least dabbled in various soya and almond-based milk products and certainly, there are some decent alternatives out there. The difference with Perfect Day’s milk is that it’s closer to a replica than an alternative. The ingenious team — who are based in California — add the same proteins that are found in actual milk in order to retain the flavour. It’s down to this old fermentation technique that they are able to develop the proteins using yeast and sugar. They then add plenty of super-powered plants to get the feel and the texture right and you’ve got milk. No udders harmed.
To add to the list of benefits, the non-economic production values of this seemingly miracle product will save on greenhouse gas emissions by around 84% compared to traditional milk production. Alongside that, they expect to consume 98% less water and use 91% less land. This really is a milk miracle.
We’re anticipating to see Animal-free milk on our shelves by the end of the year. Unbelievably, the company’s produce won’t only end with the milk itself but will extend to yoghurt, ice-cream and even cheese.
